In this chapter that introduces readers to this amazing book you get an idea of who a hobbit is. To give you an idea hobbits are small creatures with furry feet that do not like adventure and enjoy relaxing in hobbit holes all day. That is what Bilbo Baggins the hobbit enjoys doing in this book.
The reason why this book has been such a magnificent hit which got Jrr. Tolkein's readers to continue on with "The Lord of the Rings" is because of the fact that this book led up to that one. The chapter begins with Jrr. Tolkein telling his readers what hobbits are and then he leads his readers up to the part where Gandalf a powerful and popular wizard of that area comes to visit Bilbo.
One thing that hobbits enjoy doing the most at certain times of the day is sitting down to tea which is exactly what Bilbo was doing when Gandalf arrived.
Gandalf and Bilbo had been friends for a little while and this convinced Bilbo to invite over later on for tea with him. When Bilbo threw Gandalf out of the house he was so busy laughing about his mischevious plans that he did not seem to care.
Gandalf immediately made a mark on Bilbo's door which helped thirteen dwarfs find Bilbo's home that very next night. The dwarfs revealed the reason for their unnexpected arrival to Bilbo when they had forced Bilbo to make them dinner and receive them inside of his beautiful hobbit home. As Thorin the head dwarf put it he said that they wanted to use Bilbo as their burglar while they went on a journey towards the mountains.
They told him how a evil dragon named Smaug stole all of the dwarf's treasure and was keeping it inside of his home. Now they all had to make Biblo make an unnexpected journey with them to retrieve their treasure back.
My thoughts about this book when I first read it two years ago was I thought it was really, really cool. I really enjoyed how the dwarfs just popped in on Bilbo and made themselves comfortable in his home. You will really get into it once they start making their journey because many weird things start happening that is not normal.
I am not going to give to much away but why I enjoyed the story the most was because the story became more intense as you read on.
The fact that more conflicts kept occuring as you read on made me desire to read more. If I can remember correctly, I actually did not stop until I finished the book, which I finished in two months or less. I am very sure that if you are into fantasy stories like this one then it will deffinitely make you desire the same thing.
The organization pattern used in this book was deffinitely cause and effect because everything that occured caused one thing to happen and then had an effect all throughout the book. If I was to mention Jrr. Tolkein's main purpose in this book and that would be to use suspense to entise his readers to read more of his book in order to find out what happened next. Jrr. Tolkein is most famous for his two best selling books "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" which has the best twist in fantasy than any fantasy book that has ever been written.
